You should know: According to Suzuki ZA’s press release, this new S-Edition is a birthday gift to the successful compact SUV range… slotting in between the budget GL derivatives and its fancier GLX brethren. All alterations or additions are purely cosmetic, and we couldn’t quite establish what the “S” stands for.
S for Special?
More info: The drive train is identical to all other ‘Brezzas: a naturally-aspirated 1.5L in-line 4-cylinder petrol engine sends up to 77kW or 138Nm to the front wheels via either a 5-speed Manual or 4-speed Automatic gearbox. All specs are based off the humble GL model, hence this is called a GL S-Edition.
S… for Specs?
Why you should: The base specifications include remote central locking, ISOFIX anchors, two airbags, climate control, ABS with EBD, 16-inch alloys and a modern infotainment system. S-Edition buyers receive more bumper and side-skirt garnish, side window visors, carbon-look grill inserts, shiny door sills and silver interior trim.
Aha! So “S” stands for… shiny?
Why you shouldn’t: That’s a proper head-scratcher. We have yet to get the (comparably) lazy but commuter-friendly auto-box underfoot but can report that – in true Suzuki style – this manual’s reverse gear loves grinding into position. The media system looks relatively basic but does as it’s told; a personal gripe is its lack of a volume knob.
What else? Prices currently range from R275,000 (Manual) to R295,000 (Auto) with a massive 5-year/200,000km warranty and small 4-year/60,000km service plan. This not only represents excellent value, but also leaves some room to buy more extras for your Vitara Brezza S-Edition.
