Sprint Review: 2025 Audi A3 Sportback 35 TFSi S-Line

You are now viewing a 2025 Audi A3 Sportback S-Line TFSi in Python Yellow. And yes, some pythons are yellow. But before I get caught up in this colour, you probably want to know some specs and prices.

You should know: OK, specs! This 35 TFSi S-Line has a 1.4L turbo-petrol 4 cylinder producing up to 110kW or 250Nm, driving the front wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Audi claims 0-100 in 8.2 seconds, top speed around 220km/h, plus average fuel use of 5.8L/100 from the 50L tank.

More info: We did our best to test all those claims and, umm, most of them seem legit. Thanks to that quick-shifting box of cogs and a kerb weight of 1.4 tons, this premium German hatchback feels more brawny than the 110kW suggest. In fact, I’m quite sure it’s mostly due to all of the 250Nm arriving at just 1,500rpm.

Why you should: I didn’t test the claimed top speed, although it feels utterly plausible, but did perform a handful of acceleration tests. The best attempt yielded 8.87 seconds (please watch the video below), which is half a second off the maker’s claim yet still mighty impressive for such a smooth, agile, sophisticated and luxurious compact vehicle.

Stopping from 100km/h took 3.23 seconds and an amazing 36.45 metres. For the record, our test vehicle was shod with Good-Year Eagle F1 rubber of the dimension 225/40R18 on all corners. Other crucial dimensions include a 425L boot (extendable to multiples of that), plus a 11.1m turning radius.

Why you shouldn’t: The ground clearance is so woeful that I couldn’t find any definitive number for this particular model. And I don’t want to be Captain Obvious here but you’ll be heavily inconvenienced, then judged, by the marauding hordes of SUV and Crossover drivers in our cities and villages. Oh, and then there’s the price…

What else? Ah yes, the all-important prices. This one currently retails for R808,200 without options, one of which is the yellow paint for about 15k. But why would you not have your A3 Sportback in the happiest colour of them all? The colour of sunflowers, emojis, bananas, gold, beer or honey.

But, if your soul is dark or you hate happiness or you think you belong in a rap video full of expletives and mispronunciations, there’s also a Black Edition for an extra R25,000.
