The public reaction was mixed, fairly skewed toward the negative and included insults like Baby Poo, Baby Puke, Baby Diarrhea, Shaki, Khaki, Shomit and Eww No!
More info: Other interesting titbits I can tell you since my first review is that Chili Red Metallic still cost a few grand back then but appears to be a no-cost option right now. The only additional costs occur when you order Daytona Grey Pearlescent (R24,500), Ascari Blue Metallic or this Sakhir Gold Metallic for R42,000.
What else? Besides the exciting SQ8 and lunatic RS Q8 versions, this 55 TFSi with its 3-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 can be had in either Platinum Edition (like the red one) or Black Edition as seen here. The privilege of turning classy chrome and sleek silver to boring black will even set you back an extra R43,000.
Why you shouldn’t: That’s excluding any of the tasty and expensive optional extras, and starts from a base price of almost 2 million Rand. Even though this is Audi’s biggest and most luxurious SUV, we’ve come under increasing fire from irate Youtube or social media commenters; rightfully questioning why cars are so expensive in our market.
Why you should: Because the Q8 is highly refined, extremely luxurious and an absolute delight to drive. Added to that, it’s one of the last Ingolstadt products which can be had in either turbo-diesel or turbo-petrol form and – at the time of publishing this – the diesel was about R77,000 cheaper, spec-for-spec.
Each new Audi Q8 55 TFSi is sold with a 1-year/unlimited-km warranty and 5-year/100,000km maintenance plan.
