You are now looking at a 2026 Alfa Romeo Junior Elettrica Veloce in Mama-Mia-this-is-sacrilege-you-can’t-put-an-electric-motor-in-an-Alfa White.
You should know: Yup, this is a fully electric Alfa. No twin carbs, no dual overhead cams, no Busso V6 trumpet noises, and no check engine light. In fact, the only engine is a single electric motor driving the front wheels. But before you roll your eyes and scroll away, this brand-new EV has been designed to emphasise the brand’s sportiness.
Power comes from a fairly compact 54kWh battery with up to 100kW charging ability, meaning you can bump the charge level from 30 to 80% in about half an hour at a fast charger. Our white press vehicle also came with a home charger, although it used a round European two-pin plug, which has two earth terminals our sockets don’t cater for.
More info: While the base Junior Elettrica offers 115kW and 260Nm, this Veloce model ramps those numbers up to 207kW and 345Nm. It also has a mechanical limited-slip differential, something rather unusual but most welcome in a powerful FWD EV, to help those gorgeous 20-inch wheels put the power down more cleanly.
Why you shouldn’t: That LSD works overtime in fast starts from standstill and/or vigorous cornering exercises, while a synthetic hum accompanies any acceleration, although it overshoots deceleration salvos or full stops. Kinda like every car in a Hollywood movie. Alfa claims a maximum cruising range of 340km for the Veloce model.
Why you should: That may not sound like much but Madonna-Mia, have you looked at this car? It’s been a while since I took random macro shots of a press vehicle’s tasty details which include, in no particular order, the matt serpent logos in both c-pillars, those crazy cloverleaf alloys, the truncated rear light setup or most of the interior; including backlit air vents.
What else? Umm, I’m unsure how to type this but… the price is roughly 1 million Rand. Is that worth it? Of course not, but to wealthy EV (or Alfa) fans, the new Junior Elettrica probably represents the sportiest of all current EV’s. Not fastest, but sportiest. You could also opt for the cheaper, less sporty but more efficient base model at around R820,000.
Each new Junior Elettrica is sold with a 5-year/100,000km vehicle warranty, 8-year/150,000km battery warranty and a 5-year/100,000km service plan.
