About halfway through their life cycle, most cars get a quick jab in the arm to keep them competitive in our markets. Here are all the details about the rejuvenated Hyundai Creta…
More features
Building on the sensible and well-spec’d … platform launched a few years ago – read our launch report here – Hyundai South Africa took this opportunity to add extra features to this front-wheel drive compact SUV. The highlights, depending on the chosen model, include the following:
Keyless entry and start, a fully adjustable steering wheel, 8-inch touch-screen media system with smartphone connectivity and voice controls, wireless charging tray and multiple charging ports, at least four loudspeakers, extra faux leather trim, various active driver aids, as well as rear park sensors and a reverse camera.
Same drive train
Power for all new Creta derivatives still comes from the reliable 1.5L 4-cylinder petrol engine delivering 84kW at 6,300rpm and 144Nm around 4,500rpm. Not only is this the same as before, it also arrives at comparably high engine speeds and is delivered to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual (Premium model only) or slightly rubbery IVT (CVT-type) gearbox.
Wait! Before you click away, it’s important to note that this drive train cuts down on purchase price, potential maintenance and everyday fuel consumption. Hyundai S.A. claims 6.3 to 6.5L/100km from the 50L tank. The IVT even has simulated gear ratios and a manual override function, for more driver control.
Matte models
Creta’s exterior styling is mostly unchanged, with only the “Matte Edition” showing differences in its front and rear bumper designs. The matt colour options are white, silver and black, plus these vehicles differentiate themselves from other Cretas with gloss black 17-inch alloys, plus gloss black window and door trim.
The “regular” Creta models can be ordered in white, silver, grey, black, red or blue. As a little reminder, this lifestyle SUV is ready for south(ern) African family adventures with its multiple airbags, Isofix child seat anchors, 485kg payload, 416 to 1,384L of cargo capacity, as well as 200mm of ground clearance.
Better pricing
Considering the small updates to this beloved platform, Hyundai S.A. must be commended for slotting their updated Creta neatly into their own SUV line-up and the hordes of competitors. Priced between R450,000 and R525,000, each new Creta also includes a 7-year/200,000km warranty and 4-year/60,000km service plan.
