Volvo South Africa confirmed the launch of their fully-electric XC40 Recharge which should hit our showroom floors by August 2021.
The Swedish brand also announced that it plans to be all-electric by the year 2030, and that it will be phased in across all models up till then.
Order books in South Africa for the XC40 Recharge should open in April, with first deliveries to take place in August. (Let’s hope these dates stay for now, in our currently changing world. 🙂

Apart from the XC40 Recharge, where it all starts, the C40 Recharge will be next in line and available from Volvo Studios in Milan, Tokyo and New York.
The XC40 Recharge P8 features an electric all-wheel-drive powertrain with peak power output at around 300 kW. 0-100 will be demolished in 4.9 sec, while top speed is limited to 180 km/h.
Range is claimed at more than 400 km, but let’s test that when we get our hands on a model. Some brands overseas have surprised, or should we say surpassed, their claimed figures!

Volvo Car South Africa is planning to have a charging point installed at all their local dealerships.
Apart from going all-electric by 2030, Volvo Cars will also transform the wholesale model by moving online with strong customer relationships.
Online prices will be fixed, which will grow into a flawless process when buying a car. Will that also be a ‘floorless’ experience? Time will tell. The only constant in today’s world is change…

I myself will still want to liaise with an anti-AI normal human being on the showroom floor before I just press the ‘add to basket’ button.
