It just happened again. Motoring journalists are not infallible and for the third time in my career I made a slightly huge mistake. The first one involved a hidden Honda CD player, my second blunder was mistaking a Jeep’s engine and this newest one follows that tradition with the Mercedes-Benz ML400 4Matic.
I’ve been waiting for this car a long time. A few cancellations and finger nails later, Mercedes-Benz’ A45 AMG finally arrived for a week of testing. Why was I so excited to drive it? Not only is it the first proper AMG A-Class, it’s also the first four-pot AMG and the most powerful four cylinder in the world.
Mercedes-Benz introduced its first luxury SUV, the popular ML or M-Class, in 1997 with a short cameo appearance in Jurassic Park. Stuttgart just pipped its main German rivals to the start and maintained a strong following for the soft 4×4 built in Alabama, USA.
