This past weekend saw Suzuki South Africa break yet another record; and while it might not have been one of their (seemingly) monthly sales records, it turned out to be a second Guinness World Record for the ever-popular Jimny. However, the weekend covered even more than just a record attempt.
In 2023, the Jimny community flocked from all over the country and descended onto the little Free State town of Clarens. It, however, not only offered an excuse for Jimny owners to meet up, but also for people from all over the country to enjoy musical festivities.

This year, the now renowned #JimnyGathering took over the Western Cape towns of Oudtshoorn and George, whilst residing and tackling numerous activities on the Louvain farm.

Activities galore
The weekend consisted of more than just a record attempt. From 4×4-ing up the Louvain mountains, painting Clay Jimnys at the Pop-Up Clay Café, morning yoga, silent disco’s, braaiing, performances by Arno Carstens and Loki Rothman, and shopping for Jimny merchandise, the 2025 #JimnyGathering had it all.

This time, the quiet Karoo town of Oudtshoorn was brought to life as artists such as Karen Zoid, Jeremy Loops, Early B, and Spoegwolf performed at the Suzuki Safari Festival (which travels along with the #JimnyGathering). The festival even included the Springbok vs Argentina match.

A second Guinness World Record
The 2023 event saw a new Guinness World Record for Suzuki South Africa as over 750 Jimnys joined to switch on their headlights, all at the same time.
Since the inaugural event, the Jimny 5-door was launched, giving the Suzuki team inspiration for a new World Record. With more doors, and the ability to travel with more occupants, a new record attempt was set to see how many doors could be closed within a 3-second timespan.

This recipe seemed to work, with visibly more families (plus children and pets!) joining the festivities.
The result saw more than 300 Jimnys added to the 2023 record attempt to bring the total number of Jimnys to 1,127; which further resulted in a total of 1,838 doors being closed. Absolutely overthrowing the minimum requirement of 250, set by Guinness themselves.

A winning recipe
The #JimnyGathering has quickly grown into a must-attend event for Jimny owners, as it brings Jimny owners together from across the country. Its popularity has spilled over into other countries as well, with Japan recently seeing more than 1,300 Jimnys attend its event.

It shows the unique appeal and quirkiness of Jimny owners. Since its arrival in South Africa, even dating back to the LJ and SJ models, each Jimny seems to be unique as owners make it their own individual product.
It seems to be the perfect excuse for Jimny owners to take leave, but to also join others in sharing their love for the brand.
