The past week, Suzuki launched the second smallest 4×4 SUV, with only the 3-door Jimny taking the crown as the smallest 4×4 on the market.

Launch report: Suzuki Jimny 1.5 AllGrip (GL en GLX) 5-door
Suzuki ends off successful 2023 with the launch of the Jimny 5-door
In November 2018, Suzuki South Africa launched the brand-new and long-awaited 4th generation (code named: JB74) Jimny. While the 3rd generation Jimny was one of the key ingredients for Suzuki’s success, since re-entering the country in 2008, the model needed some modern updates. In fact, at that time, the third generation Jimny (JB23) had been in the country for a decade (two in other countries).
Three things we learnt from the #JimnyGathering
“Do you perhaps know why there were so many Jimnies in Clarens, and were you part of it?” was one of the first questions I was asked as soon as we entered the Lesotho border via the iconic (and 4×4-only) Sani Pass. It filled me with great joy to explain the reason behind this (let’s call this) Jimny take-over. Primarily, since I was part of a historic event, and hopefully, the first of many.
Déjà vu for Suzuki
Suzuki certainly kept the best for last today as it publicly launched their brand new 5-door Jimny at the 2023 Festival of Motoring (Kyalami Race circuit), just like they did with their 3-door version in 2018. This follows a very busy week for the brand, which saw the reveal of two other completely new models, namely the Fronx and the XL6.
Suzuki Fronx heading for Southern Africa
Along with the introduction of its first-ever fully-electric concept (set for a 2025 introduction), as well as the five-door Jimny, Suzuki also launched the new Fronx SUV, set for a Southern-African arrival.
Suzuki Jimny JB74: Nostalgia and an eye on the future
Warning: This article might be slightly biased.
When Suzuki launched their new Jimny JB74 model in the picturesque highveld region, back in 2018, it became my dream to own one of these small “do-it-all” vehicles. Fast forward to 2022, and our eyes were set on an extensive road trip, covering some 5500km, from the Southern point of South Africa to the Northern, and Eastern parts of the country. Our journey took as back to the location where I fell in love with the JB74, as well as towards Clarens, the town which is set to host the #JimnyGathering in September 2023.
Jimny 5-door revealed
At last, the 5-door version of the Jimny JB74 has been showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo in New-Delhi, India. Set to officially be launched in India around March 2023, Southern-Africans will have to wait a bit longer for the arrival of this eagerly anticipated off-roader.
