List: Cars of the Year 2015

Here’s our list of cars we tested in 2015 which made such a good impression that we just had to tell you about them…

HONDA ACCORD 3.5

Fat, heavy, thirsty, boring, slow? Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong!

We approve: Cracking V6, comfort, economy
We frown upon: The price
Will cost you: Over half a million bucks
Who should purchase it: Fans of lively six cylinders and comfortable sedans

VOLVO XC90

It’s new, it’s big, it’s clever and it’s not German. Volvo’s new top model is a world beater.

You will love: Clever design
You might not: Price, servicing
You’ll pay: Upwards of 900k
You are: A free thinker

VOLKSWAGEN up!

Dynamite comes in small packages. Although its tiny 1L engine is not dynamite, the up!’s quality, space and economy certainly are.

What we loved: Value, quality, space
What we didn’t: (Lack of) Performance
It costs: From N$140,000
Who should get one: City Slickers, Single Parents, Pensioners and Commuters

LEXUS NX200t

This is one of those cars which we didn’t expect anything from. The Lexus NX200t had other ideas – it’s a great compact luxury SUV.

It’s good at: Hiding its roots. Driving.
It’s bad at: Dealership count
It’s gonna cost you: From N$560,000
It’s for people who: Want modern exclusivity

MERCEDES-AMG GT S

The fastest car we tested in 2015. Actually, the fastest we’ve ever tested.

We enjoyed: 0-100 in 3.64 seconds (GPS-verified)
We didn’t enjoy: Hard, low ride
You’ll pay: N$ 2 million
Also consider: Porsche 911

BMW i3 (REX)

Sadly not for sale in Namibia. Everyone in our office is a huge fan.

This is great: Tech and speed
This isn’t: Price, charge time
You’ll pay: N$605,000
Also consider: Nissan Leaf

KIA SOUL

This car isn’t just about its outlandish looks – it can do much more.

The positives: Funky looks, versatility
The negatives: Not many
The cost: N$250,000 to N$350,000
The one you want: DSL in Postman Pat Red

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT

Modern looks and specs, trusted comfort and style.

Yes please: Space, comfort, value
No thank you: Nothing, actually
