Windhoek, 12 May 2014. Viglietti Motors, in collaboration with Ferrari international partner Shell, will be revisiting Namibia with the Ferrari brand in June 2014, after a successful outing in 2013 warranted more attention from the iconic Italian marque on Namibian soil.
Once or twice a week my computer pings at me and announces the imminent arrival of a new test car. Should the electronic reminder include the word “Toyota”, my heart usually sinks in expectation of drab plastics, blunt sheet metal and, with the FJ-flavoured exception, a week of lacklustre driving.
I’m not quite sure who I’m writing today’s review of the Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG for… except avid petrol heads and, judging by the few brief sightings of its predecessor, grey-haired gentlemen with a penchant for smooth jazz and traffic light grands prix.
Pass the caviar and that black credit card; I’m still high from driving a car so superior and luxurious that only real Beluga and serious retail therapy will cure my withdrawal symptoms. The Mercedes-Benz CL63 AMG is near the top of Merc’s price list and makes damn sure you (and others) know about it.
Let’s face it. You’re not a proper petrol-head unless you had a poster of a whale-tail Porsche 911 on your bedroom wall and knew the difference between a 924, 944 and 968. You might prefer the dramatic Italian offerings or brute American muscle, but any car fundi should entertain a sizable amount of respect for the Stuttgart sports cars.
