That is the only vocabulary that came to mind, when my wingman and I headed out of Cape Town from a hangar full of aeroplanes… in a car that felt more like a weapon than anything else with four wheels and a lightened fly-wheel.
On your marks! … well, that’s about what we get from Honda worldwide so far after the unveiling of the all-new Civic Type R last week. We have pictures from all angles, inside / outside, but that’s about it.

Brand loyalty has many forms and sources which are especially resilient in our local market. Hyundai has finally made an attempt to infiltrate the southern African hot hatch segment and we attended the S.A. launch to see if the i30 N stands a chance against the Golf GTi’s and Type R’s of this world.
What you need to know: The old Type R is dead, long live the new Type R! When Honda shocked the world with crazy turbo power in their new hot Civic, they did so (locally) with the spaceship hatchback body. Now though, for reasons I’m not sure about, they’ve killed that model off in favour of this sedan / fastback car.
Honda het onlangs die nuwe Civic Type R (FK8) tesame met die nuwe Jazz 1.5 Sport (voorheen bekend as die Dynamic) by die Dezzi resies baan in Durban geloods. Terwyl die Civic Type R ons asems weggeslaan het met ‘n kombinasie van uitstekende ingeneurswese en geweldige pret, het die Honda Jazz Sport ons met ‘n effense kopkrap-situasie gelos.
‘n Geruime tydjie terug het ons die splinternuwe Honda Type-R om die Dezzi resies baan in Kwazulu-Natal geneem. Hierdie baan is spesifiek gekies om die uitblinker-kwaliteite van die nuwe Type-R ten toon te stel. Dis is in lang en kort draaie waar hierdie voorwiel aangedrewe absoluut fenominaal is. Dié keer het ons die Type-R gekry om dit vir ‘n week as ‘n “familie” en “werks” voertuig te gebruik.
So here’s something different. Each year we list our favourite new cars which were launched over the last 12 months but this time around, instead of us telling you which ones we liked, our Facebook page invited YOU to vote your favourite new ride of 2016.
The list of candidates was chosen from the launches we attended or vehicles we thought were brilliant newcomers and worthy of being included in this line-up.
The motoring industry often develops its own names for certain genres of automobiles. Softroaders, MPV’s, Sports Sedans all denominate a category of car but none is more revered than the fabled Hot Hatch. After spending a week with Honda’s new Civic Type-R, I’d like to propose a rethink of that classification.
