Sprint Review: 2022 Mercedes-Benz C200 AMG Line / Edition 6
The more things change, the more they stay the same. Mercedes’ new C-Class made its appearance during the messy demise of COVID-19 so we never got a proper look at what’s changed…
The W206, one hit wonder or the best of both worlds?

I had the privilege of having a look at the new C-Class a year before it made production, and already then I knew Mercedes-Benz was onto something. Every part of the prototypes told me that the engineers at Sindelfingen were out for mass produced perfection. After all, the 206 has something to prove to the world. Let me explain:

Yoh, that’s pretty. How much does it cost?
You need to know: Three times. That’s how often I got asked about this car’s price in less than 12 hours. The muse effect
Motoring journalists are a privileged bunch. Many of them don’t realise it, some can’t appreciate the fact but imagine this scenario: Every week a new car, a full tank of fuel, your pick of brands (within reason) and everything handed to you on a plate, in exchange for a few hundred opinionated words in a publication that is hoped to sway public opinion and convince Joe Bloggs to buy a certain car, or not.

The confusing badges
Deceit and trickery are around every corner. We get deceived by government, tricked by marketers and fooled into a wonderfully capitalistic lifestyle. The onus is on you to figure out if you want to put up with it or not and there’s a wealth of information (and nonsense) out there to inspire or guide you.

The impressive split
Seasoned readers will know what’s coming – yup, another confession. The first car I ever owned and the car I owned the longest, was a C-Class. When I despondently handed over the keys last year it had covered 233,000km and was still as tight as a drum.
