I feel a bit sorry for Volkswagen, and so should you. Although they were probably part of the culprits, our demand for ever-modernised vehicles has left us with countless premium brands and a handful of weird cheapies. Guess which one “the people’s car” now belongs to?
How handsome is the car on this page, hey? Look at its chiselled jaw, those sparkling eyes and the functional interior… but is it any good to drive?
Fresh on the heels of my last anecdote-laden review, this trendy Vee Double You gave me plenty of chances to load this article with pleasant stories.
Last year, Galimoto Media took to the roads of the Eastern Cape to test the new Volkswagen Polo range as the sixth generation of this car was launched. Now, some time after this initial; and a few other; tests with the Polo, we got to test the Beats version.

Meer opsies, moeiliker besluite
Die nuwe Volkswagen (VW) Golf reeks, geloods in Mei 2017, is nie net beter nie, maar strek nou ook oor ‘n veel wyer reeks modelle. When thinking about the Golf, my personal recollection is the vivid memory of my childhood friend, whose father owned a Golf GTi Mk2. It became a family member, a car that stayed in the family for 18 years. At the end, the car and family only separated due to unfortunate circumstances. In fact, until today it is likely that you’ll hear a similar story from GTi (or Golf) owners.
The new line
I don’t get it. Those words may be laced with ignorance but in my case, I plead sheer and utter confusion, your honour. Not since I drove some low-slung quad-pipe monster has a test car garnered this amount of positive attention. Young kids, Moms and Dads, even the grandparents gawk at the new Volkswagen Tiguan.
The sensible all-rounder
Some things in life can be classless. That doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re overly bland or common (wif a capital K) because the beauty of something classless means that it’s a great all-rounder; it fits in everywhere. Like a white collar shirt, a grey handbag or the new VW Passat.
