It’s rumoured that one of the best-selling parts ordered from BMW dealerships is that shiny M badge with the red, blue and violet streaks next to it. So how can you tell if your car is the real deal?
History

Lineage: Volkswagen Citi Golf
It’s a well-known fact that Volkswagen of South Africa built a modernized version of the original Golf (“Mark 1”) right up to the point where it couldn’t cope with safety and emissions standards. The Citi Golf lived from 1984 to 2009 as a youthful and affordable mode of transport in southern Africa. NamWheels gives you some details:
Lineage: Volkswagen Touareg
Four years ago, Volkswagen achieved the unthinkable, in a car which is fairly well known on South-African and Namibian roads. Completing a 19 000km route across 21 countries in a time of nine days, four hours and eight minutes, a team of three Germans travelled from Cape Agulhas (South Africa) to Norkapp (Norway).
Lineage: Suzuki Jimny
With the new Jimny said to go on sale in November 2018, here is a look back at the car that crept into many hearts; including ours.
Loved by many, the Suzuki Jimny has a very rich history in southern Africa. Known for its small appearance, the Jimny has become known as the nimble 4×4 that will get you anywhere and even put larger, more expensive SUV’s to shame. It quickly became Suzuki’s stable model in southern Africa, and with good reason.
Brand History: in bullet points
We give you a very brief history (in short paragraphs) of the most popular car companies:
Lineage: Mitsubishi Pajero Sport
Have you ever wondered where the Pajero Sport came from? Isn’t Pajero a naughty word in Spanish? Does it share its platform with other Mitsus? You need wonder no more, we have the answers!
Geskiedenis: TATA
TATA: Wat u nie geweet het nie!
Tata is reeds ‘n dekade of twee of meer ‘n vertroude naam in Namibië.
Lineage: Mercedes-Benz SL
There are cars with lots of history, there are cars with a few generations of ancestors, and then there’s the Mercedes-Benz SL. The drop-top from Stuttgart with “Sport Leicht” on its rump can trace its ancestry back further than most modern automobiles.
