I’ve been waiting for this car a long time. A few cancellations and finger nails later, Mercedes-Benz’ A45 AMG finally arrived for a week of testing. Why was I so excited to drive it? Not only is it the first proper AMG A-Class, it’s also the first four-pot AMG and the most powerful four cylinder in the world.

I got to experience the latter first hand this week after taking delivery of a sleek Mercedes-Benz SLK250 to put through its paces.
Dear car manufacturers, I’m writing to you today with less of a rant than a positive criticism about a trend that has been slowly creeping into luxury cars over the past few years. It isn’t massage seats, head-up displays or infra-red vision, no, it’s the analogue clock.
Deceit and trickery are around every corner. We get deceived by government, tricked by marketers and fooled into a wonderfully capitalistic lifestyle. The onus is on you to figure out if you want to put up with it or not and there’s a wealth of information (and nonsense) out there to inspire or guide you.
