Why is it always the poor Volvos we compare to other vehicles? We at NamWheels believe that they offer such refreshing alternatives to those regular market dominators that direct comparisons are absolutely necessary.
There you are, standing outside your local Volvo dealership after close of business and that stunning blue XC60 you had your heart set on is parked next to a cool grey V90 Cross Country. Dang it, which dotted line do you sign on?
“As ek net hierdie sak-sports-kamera het, kan ek elke naweek my enkellaan-roete op die fiets afneem”. Hierdie gedagte mag dalk deur vele sports entusiaste se koppe gemaal het, net om toe te laat dat hierdie einste kamera nie lank na die aankoop, stof begin vergader in die kas nie.
The middle child
I’ve got another confession to make. Besides incredibly common cars like Polos or Fortuners, there’s another class of automobile that leaves me reasonably cold: the mid-size SUV. You know what I’m talking about, right? Think Audi Q5, BMW X5, Mercedes ML or GLE and my latest test car – Volvo’s XC60.
Volvo, altyd innoverend
Imposing. That’s the word a neighbour finally settled on after an extensive inspection of our latest test car. “It’s a big car but they’ve hidden the sedan’s bulk quite well.” Other words that pop up during our lengthy look at this car are “graceful”, “stylish” and “modern”. This is the new Volvo flagship sedan, the S90.
Volvo’s new flagship sedans impress
I’m starting to feel like a broken record but am happy to repeat this joyful tale as often as necessary… Volvo went from a bleak future to new ownership (Geely) and superb products. After the 40 and 60 Series, the Swedes tackled their XC90 and reinvented a whole range – this new S90 sedan is part of that.
The great anticipation
I’ve been so looking forward to testing the latest offering from Volvo. There’s been massive hype around the launch and I was privileged enough to get an early insight into this rather impressive SUV during August of this year, but it’s always even better to be able to poke around, fiddle with new knobs and dials and really get to grips with a new vehicle during a test week.
The great future
Volvo is known for building safe, reliable family cars and their big seven-seater XC90 SUV has always typified this. While the outgoing model was still a great car, a wave of fresh design and new technology is sweeping through the Swedish manufacturer with this brand-new XC90 at the pointy end.
One new car, lots of information in random paragraphs.
What you need to know: The Volvo XC60 is a mid-size luxury SUV whose mould is similar to a BMW X5 or Audi Q5. Available with your choice of four engines, two gearboxes, four trim levels, front- or intelligent all-wheel-drive (certain models only), this stylish Swede easily matches its competitors for variety.
