We recently tested the new Audi A4 40TFSI, and one question that came to mind was from a statement that a business woman in Cape Town once made back in 1995. We had a discussion one evening in a restaurant, and she alleged that a certain German brand has perfected the car. I was reminded of her statement during the time we had this striking blue Audi A4 on test.

What you need to know: The Volkswagen Passat has been around for ages and it shows. This sedan is one of those insider tips, it’s a no-brainer that deserves more sales but somehow gets ignored. Wrong badge? Perhaps in our closed minds because elsewhere (overseas markets) it’s often Volkswagen’s best seller.
South Africans and Namibians have both had a long-lasting love affair with Alfa Romeo’s delectable Giulia. The passionate relationship (for Alfisti, at least) started 55 years ago when the original Giulia, the Tipo 105 Berlina, and its subsequent sub-types became the first Alfa model range to be built in South Africa in substantial numbers.
So here’s something different. Each year we list our favourite new cars which were launched over the last 12 months but this time around, instead of us telling you which ones we liked, our Facebook page invited YOU to vote your favourite new ride of 2016.
The list of candidates was chosen from the launches we attended or vehicles we thought were brilliant newcomers and worthy of being included in this line-up.
It is said that first impressions count for a lot and are made within the first 30 seconds of entering a place. If I were to have based this review of Audi’s new A4 1.4T FSI purely on first impressions, I’d have the following to say of it:
Some things in life can be classless. That doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re overly bland or common (wif a capital K) because the beauty of something classless means that it’s a great all-rounder; it fits in everywhere. Like a white collar shirt, a grey handbag or the new VW Passat.
What you need to know: The Jaguar XE is the latest attempt from this British manufacturer to stir up that German pot of 3-Series, A4 and C-Class. With newer technology and Jaguar’s stunning design cues, the XE should stand a better chance than its X-Type predecessor. If it weren’t for that annoying exchange rate…
