If you wanted a small family car decade or two ago, you probably drove out of a Toyota showroom. Going right, presumably. These days, if you’re after a sensible car around 250 to 300 kays, there are hordes of choices with the latest tech and engines. But not many Toyotas…
In a perfect world, we’d all drive the same car. Wait, did I just type perfect? I meant imperfect. One of the greatest luxuries we have is choice, the ability to indulge our individual tastes. You drive a Golf, he drives a Focus, she drives a Hyundai and I’ve got a Civic.
Many years ago there was a hatchback Toyota called Conquest, a name that was a purely South African invention for the five-door Corolla shape. This gave birth to the cheapie offspring Tazz which could only watch VW’s Golf and other premium hatchbacks drive off into the sunset.

Nou onlangs het ons die XD-model in die reeks getoets en is vol lofgesange vir die “nuwe” Japanner wat ‘n paar nuwe eienskappe het wat hom van sy voorganger onderskei: Dinge soos ‘n nuwe enjinkap, flikkerligte in die syspieël, voorbuffer en sierrooster en hoofligte wat hom ‘n breëbors laat lyk.
