So you’re on your way to buy a new Chevy Sonic or finally order that big Honda Accord. Bad news – you’ll only find those on crunchy gravel forecourts laced with colourful bunting and misspelled slogans. For your entertainment (or misery) we’ve made a small list of cars that are no more.
The new mixture
Do you know that saying about not messing with a winning recipe? Yeah, picture the scene at Audi’s headquarters when they were tasked with updating the third generation of their accomplished A3. I imagine a boardroom full of long vacant stares, fly counting, much doodling and plenty of awkward silences.
It is said that first impressions count for a lot and are made within the first 30 seconds of entering a place. If I were to have based this review of Audi’s new A4 1.4T FSI purely on first impressions, I’d have the following to say of it:
What you need to know: The Audi A6 is a medium luxury sedan which, while hugely popular overseas, joins its brethren from Mercedes and BMW in the friend zone. Everyone respects them but buys their smaller brothers (A4, C-Class and 3-Series) while lusting after the big A8, S-Class or Seven Series.

The Audi A1 first saw the light of day in 2010 so – as is the way with modern cars – it was recently upgraded to give it an automotive shot in the arm before the new version comes along in a few years. I’ve learnt quite a number of things about this car since 2010 and also after my recent test of this A1 1.8 TFSi Sportback.
Hear ye, hear ye! Today I will dispense more motoring advice collected from the vast armada of vehicles I have tested over the years. In my humble but considerable experience, the ultimate performance car to buy is always second best – one down from the top model.
