Die eerste keer wat ek ‘n Subaru gesien het was dit nie een wat uit die Australiese agterveld hier beland het nie; dit was ‘n Angolese tweedeur-motor in Windhoek in die vroeë sewentigs. Hierdie Subaru het baie soos die eerste generasie Toyota Corolla’s gelyk – behalwe dat daar in duidelike letters geskryf was dat dit ‘n voorwielaangedrewe motor was. Boonop het hy ook aan die goedkoop kant gelyk.

What did we like? Subaru seem to be on a winning ticket with their Outback. It’s a spacious SUV type that offers impressive handling with superb road holding. The 3.6l CVT Lineartronic offers sublime acceleration through a super-smooth gearbox without the accompanying whine so prevalent in most CVT ‘boxes.

Subaru South Africa’s website alleges that they sell six distinctive model ranges, four of which I’ve already tested. Forester, Impreza, Legacy and Outback are now familiar territory to yours truly with only the Tribeca and STi left for us to test.
