Welcome to this week’s contradiction on wheels: the decidedly extravagant Range Rover powered by a sensible turbo-diesel engine. Half the appeal of a flashy R-R Sport was always its thundering beast of an engine so does this mean the Sport badge should be ripped off its backside?
Just like my previous and virgin test of a Jaguar, our new test vehicle left me slightly confused and stumped. The Jaguar XJ has been lauded with praise and welcomed by the automotive world but I wasn’t sure about the extra dose of cool and that huge, elongated bum.

Mere minutes ago I realised that I have an unnerving affection for American cars. Despite my personal preferences, I quite like most Dodge efforts, secretly lust after an old Corvette and regard Jeep as one of the most esteemed badges in the business.

Business tycoons, rock stars and lottery winners may want to pay attention today. Mercedes-Benz has just freshened up their flagship CL coupés and flew us to Gauteng for the launch which coincided with the brand’s (and indeed, the motor car’s) 125th anniversary.
Sometime last month I won the lottery. Well, not really; but it felt like it when the phone rang and someone announced that they’re bringing over a limited edition Ford with, and I quote, “lots of wings and fins on it.” I knew exactly what they were talking about and immediately thought “Jackpot!”
Vor ein paar Wochen habe ich das Lotto gewonnen. Naja, eigentlich nicht, aber es kam mir so vor als das Telefon klingelte und der Gesprächspartner mir berichtete, daß ich einen Ford mit “vielen Flügeln und Spoilern” zum Testen bekomme. Ich wußte sofort wovon die Rede war, deshalb dachte ich mir sofort “Sechs Richtige!”
Allow me to share one of my life mottos: be careful what you wish for, it might just come true. I must have been subconsciously yearning for a ballistic sedan because I was handed the key to a Lexus IS-F earlier this week. I pinched myself, rubbed my eyes and it was still there. Fantastic!
Shortly before composing this text I closed the curtains, made myself a cup of tea, killed all telephones and put on some Type 0 Negative. I want my peace and quiet. A week of driving the Chevrolet Lumina SS UTE has completely saturated my need for attention.
