Sedert 2006 het Audi die tree geneem na die SUV mark met hul Q7 model. Met die groei van die mark na kleiner en meer stedelike-vriendelike SUV’s het die Duitse vervaardiger die Q5 en Q3 bekend gestel. Aanvraag het gegroei en Audi het dus in 2017 die kleinste Q uitgebring, naamlik die Q2. Met bykans 14 jaar se ervaring (meer sodra Volkswagen se produksie van die Touareg ingebring word) het Audi besluit om nog die grootste Q-voertuig tot op hede uit te bring.

Mercedes-Benz has been a pioneering brand from day one of the car and it’s not often that this German outfit is caught napping. Perhaps they were dozing slightly when sales figures of medium-sized luxury SUV’s shot skywards; led by the BMW X3 and Audi’s Q5. Mercedes’ answer, the GLC, only arrived last year.

Sprint Review: Volvo XC60 T6

What you need to know: The Volvo XC60 is a mid-size luxury SUV whose mould is similar to a BMW X5 or Audi Q5. Available with your choice of four engines, two gearboxes, four trim levels, front- or intelligent all-wheel-drive (certain models only), this stylish Swede easily matches its competitors for variety.

I’m not a huge fan of oversized, pricey SUVs. I find them a bit pointless really. And initially, I wasn’t particularly taken with the Audi Q5 either. My first impressions were very negative, I disliked its bulbous bonnet, I felt too far removed from the whole driving experience with its clever driver assist technology and I really couldn’t see the point of its existence – halfway between a Q3 (which is quite big enough for the school run in my opinion) and a Q7 (which is somehow just magnificent).
