This review should be one of the easiest and shortest texts I have ever composed but the vehicle in question evokes such vastly differing emotions (also for yours truly) that it threatens to bloat my report into novel proportions. You see, I’ve just spent a week driving Land Rover’s Defender 110 Heritage Edition.
Car brochures used to be highly technical. I know this because there’s a pack lying on my desk right now, one of which is from 1976 and dedicates an entire page to rear suspension geometry. Nobody’s interested in that nowadays, they just want to see “media streaming” in big, thin letters over a photo of a laughing driver.
So it’s finally holiday time and you’re off to the coast with your boat to visit the in-laws. Or perhaps your daughter got a new horse for Christmas? In both cases you have our sympathy.
Jokes aside though, here’s our little list of cars that can tow big loads, arranged by number of models and total weight. Please note that we based this list on manufacturer’s figures and advise that you confirm any data with your local retailer.
Over the years I’ve realized that motoring reviews serve just two purposes. The first and most obvious is to test (but often regurgitate) specifications and other quantifiable attributes of cars which everyone could call up on their smartphone in under a minute. The second bit is more important.
Who knew that Land Rover had so many models, to most people these old Landies just look like the same car! So, if you’ve ever wanted to know the difference between the various Defender ancestors, here’s a concise list of all the models that preceded it:
I love the Range Rover Evoque and I’m sure you do too. If you weren’t a fan, you wouldn’t be reading this anyway. The favourite slander this poor vehicle endures is for its outlandish looks and usually culminates in utterances to the tune of “looks like a baby elephant sat on it!”
Excess. A characteristic where you take everything over the top and then slap some double cream on it. There are quite a few motorised excesses rolling around our country and I’ve just spent a week with the latest contender: Land Rover’s Range Rover Sport 5.0 Supercharged.
What’s this world coming to? At the risk of sounding like the grumpy sod I’m slowly turning into, back when I was young all Landies were slow, noisy and pretty ugly. I know this because my first car was just such a beast and nothing like my latest review victim, Land Rover’s new Range Rover Sport.
It’s not often that I get the chance to compare two vastly differing models in the same range, so I’m grabbing a recent opportunity with both hands to present the top and the basic specification of Land Rover’s Discovery 4 range.
